UK Time

UK to Australia Time Difference by City: Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide

Australia is on the opposite seasons to the UK, and not all of it uses daylight saving, so the gap depends on both the city and the time of year.

The gap for each city

Sydney: 11 hours ahead of the UK in UK winter, and 9 hours ahead of the UK in UK summer.

Melbourne: 11 hours ahead of the UK in UK winter, and 9 hours ahead of the UK in UK summer.

Brisbane: 10 hours ahead of the UK in UK winter, and 9 hours ahead of the UK in UK summer.

Adelaide: 10.5 hours ahead of the UK in UK winter, and 8.5 hours ahead of the UK in UK summer.

Perth: 8 hours ahead of the UK in UK winter, and 7 hours ahead of the UK in UK summer.

Who changes clocks

New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania use daylight saving from the first Sunday of October to the first Sunday of April. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia do not. The UK changes on the last Sundays of March and October, so for a few weeks in each case the two are out of step.

Planning calls

The best window for a call between the UK and the east coast of Australia is the early UK morning and the Australian evening. Perth, which is only seven or eight hours ahead of the UK, gives a larger overlap in the UK afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

Does Queensland change its clocks?

No. Queensland stays on Australian Eastern Standard Time all year, so its gap with the UK changes only when the UK does.
